download videos in mp4 from bbc.co.uk

BBC is a bit tricky in that regard but it's possible.

First you go to the site with the video and view source. Look for

<param name="playlist" value="http://playlists.bbc.co.uk/news/*.sxml">

Open that playlist file in your browser, it's just a regular ol' xml file.

Now, find the line that starts with

<item kind="programme" somethingsomething group="GROUPHERE">

Copy what's in the group tag, say p019p0cj for this example.

Now, go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/<the text you copied from the group tag>, in this case http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/p019p0cj

Oh, another xml file. Neat!

Once there, pick the video with your preferred bitrate from the <connection authExpires href tag, in this example http://news.downloads.bbc.co.uk.edgesui ... 4_512k.mp4

And there you go.
